If you’re decorating right now and you’re thinking about the lighting, the first thing you need is a lighting plan. Always plan ahead – you don’t want to end up with a room that’s too dark or one that is so bright it dazzles you. It’s a good idea to plan the lighting at around the same time as the plumbing. Most people will have to work with the electrics that are already there – but by planning you can manipluate this into your perfect lighting structure!
Start the plan by walking around the property and asking yourself -
- What will I use this space for? – Will it need to be brightly lit or will I want to set a darker mood to the room (a lounge, for example)
- What’s on display? Will it need its own light? Will there be a feature to be lit up?
- Who uses the room? An older person needs almost 15 times more light to read than a child.
- Where are the windows? What time of day will the room be used?
